Romeo and Juliet Collection
The art of Alex Righetto is a commentary on the everlasting nature of love – timeless, yet always relevant. His work speaks volumes to us in our contemporary society that values youthfulness over maturity or experience.
What would happen if Romeo and Juliet had not died?
The most famous line of the immortal play “Romeo and Juliet” – is the perfect romanticized love story that every teenager wants to re-live.
Art Basel Miami 2021 hosted an exciting exhibition by emerging artist Alex Righetto; “Romeo & Juliet: the metamorphosis”. The theme of the exhibition was the famous story told through interactive pieces like a what-if scenario: What would happen if Romeo and Juliet had not died?
His work aims at presenting a new narrative with an imagined scenario. The tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet has been a popular piece for centuries, but it can have new meaning in today’s society.
The exhibition idea is that Romeo and Juliet “kill” their childish ego instead of themselves, their incidents are helping them to grow together instead of dying. In this new perspective, it will not be about the love between these two doomed lovers, but it’s rather a reflection on what we each go through in our own personal changes in order to maintain a relationship.
The tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet has been a popular piece for centuries, but it can have new meaning in today's society.
The journey of a lifetime is not just about finding someone you love. It's also the process through which we learn how to be our best selves, and this exhibition will explore that transformational idea with an unusual perspective on oftentimes one of the most powerful stories ever told - Romeo & Juliet

Juliet is lost in thought as she gazes out at the horizon, her mind painting a beautiful picture of what might be. She’s transported to another time and place, free from the stresses of reality.
This painting is the perfect embodiment of the modern woman. She is strong and independent, yet she is also vulnerable and expressive. Her strokes and lines represent her name, her family decisions, her emotions, and everything else trying to get a piece of her.

Behind the scenes
The artist perspective
When I was a child, I came across this story that was staged in my town Verona Italy. It was about two lovers who couldn’t be together but eventually did what fate had intended them to do: die tragically because they loved each other too much. I found myself hit by this tragic love story… Why does love have to be tragic?
That’s why I wanted to change the ending.
